Fall parks in Flemington, NJ | Flemington SubaruAs the fall leaves begin to change colors, there’s no better way to experience this natural magic trick than to get outside for a walk. Parks and recreation areas around Flemington offer so many spots in which you can enjoy the great outdoors all season long.

Tuccamirgan Park

Tuccamirgan Park is named for Chief Tuccamirgan, who was the leader of a Lenape tribe in the area. Tuccamirgan befriended John Case, an early settler, and helped Case and his family survive the wilderness of what is now Flemington. The chief was eventually buried on Case’s property in what would become the family graveyard.

The 12-acre park boasts several winding walking paths through quiet fields and shady forests, offering perfect views for leaf peepers or avid walkers and runners. Picnic shelter and playground equipment dot the park, which is slated for future continued improvements.

Mine Brook Park

Located at the intersection of Old Croton Road and Capner Street, Mine Brook Park is a terrific choice for a family outing. Enjoy a picnic with friends at the picnic pavilion, which is stocked with picnic tables and grills. The pavilion is available for rentals, making it a wonderful gathering spot for an outdoor birthday party or family celebration.

Once you’ve enjoyed your barbecue goodies, take the little ones over to the tot lot for some playground fun, or take a half-mile walk along the Mine Brook. Interested in a bit of friendly competition? Round up some friends and have a great day of athletic fun at the softball field, sand volleyball court, or bocce court.

Clover Hill Park and South Branch Wildlife Management Area

Flemington is fortunate to have the Clover Hill Park and South Branch Wildlife Management Area, which comprises over 550 acres of mature woodlands, rolling fields, and several creeks. It was originally the site of a poultry farm that was the last chick hatchery in the state. Certain areas are now under contract with a local farmer for agricultural use, while other portions have been designated for public use.

Clover Hill Park and South Branch Wildlife Management Area features undeveloped parklands with a trail system consisting of old paved farm service roads. This trail system can be used to hike from Clover Hill Road to Hillsborough Road in Somerset County. Apart from hiking, the trail system can also be used for mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding. The park has a small pond that can be used for catch-and-release fishing, and hunters may obtain a hunting permit.

Portions of the park have been reseeded with the hopes of attracting grassland bird species including grasshopper sparrows, eastern meadowlarks, and bobolinks. You may spot migrating waterfowl taking a pit stop at the pond. You may even spy a red fox or coyote.

Whether you’re looking for a place for quiet contemplation or a family exploration, the parks of Flemington has something for everyone. Make a point to check out some of these natural beauties and enjoy the fresh air!
