For most families, summer is everyone’s favorite season. Longer and warmer days are an invitation to relax and spend some quality time with the kids. But instead of doing the same things every year, take a look at our suggestions of five family-friendly things to do in Flemington this summer.
Northlandz for Train Enthusiasts
Railroad enthusiasts will rave about this place, but no one stays indifferent after visiting the world’s largest miniature railway. Trains aren’t the only attraction at Northlandz. Model-sized houses, bridges, mountains, roads, and people complete the tiny human-made town. At 495 US-202, Flemington, you can also visit a dollhouse with over 90 rooms, a doll museum, and an art gallery.
Opening hours are Thursdays to Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Liberty Village Premium Outlets for Fashionistas
Shopping sprees aren’t for everyone, but for families who love fashion and a great bargain, the Liberty Village Premium Outlets is a fun place. Forty outlet stores offer the world’s most famous brands with daily discounts up to 65 percent. Even if only half the family likes to shop, there’s plenty for the other members to do in the area while they wait.
Shops are open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Private Tour of the Doric House for History Buffs
The Doric House was built in 1845 by a local carpenter named Mahlon Fisher. He had a taste for the so-called Greek Revival style, so he made this house and many others in this town with the same esthetics.
It’s the perfect site for families who love a good story and beautiful architecture. Interested visitors must call ahead to make an appointment.
Space Escapes for Sci-Fi Fans
You must succeed on a space mission, save your crew, and defeat a deadly AI gone rogue. All this in under one hour. Cue the suspenseful Sci-Fi movie score. Spoiler alert: you won’t be traveling to space for this one.
Escape rooms are perfect for families who love clue-solving activities. The game is made for a group of up to eight people and must be booked online. Prices vary between $35 per player and $240 per private game.
Bernadette Morales Nature Preserve for Outdoor Curious
The Bernadette Morales Nature Preserve is great for all families, even the ones who don’t spend much time outdoors the rest of the year. The hiking trails are ranked as easy, so you can choose to go on a stroll or a hike, depending on your usual level of physical activity. Remember to print the online map before hiking or take a photo of the one at the entrance of the main trail.
Summers with the family don’t always have to mean long road trips across the country and visits to popular theme parks. Activities in the small town of Flemington are diverse, unique, and just as fun. There’s a lot more to discover, too, so you might need more than one summer.
