This year, Honda is celebrating 40 years of the Honda Accord, America’s best-selling sedan. To commemorate this milestone, Honda has put together a timeline of the defining moments in Accord history. Check them out below! 1976 - The first Honda Accord hits dealerships! The first model was actually a hatchback, while the sedan version was added three years later. 1988 - The 1988 Accord Coupe was one of the first Japanese vehicles assembled in the United States. This model was made exclusively in Honda’s manufacturing plant in Ohio. 1989 - The Accord became the best-selling automobile in America, making it the first non-US-based vehicle to receive this distinction. 1994 - The Accord’s fifth generation improved environmental and passenger safety with lower emissions and top-of-the-line safety features. 2005 - While gas prices were on the rise, the Accord Hybrid offered better gas mileage with comparable performance. 2008 - The Accord added Vehicle Stability Assist™ and ACE™ Body Structure to even further improve on safety. 2014 - The Accord reaches 10-million vehicles sold while also achieving 50 MPG. 2016 - 40 years, 30 Car and Driver “10 Bests”, and a sale every two minutes, the Honda Accord’s success has been quite a ride, and it’s not slowly down anytime soon!
