Honda Creates Ground Breaking Concept Model

Recently, at the Paris Motor Show, Honda released a concept model that is as unique as its customers. They revealed a mostly 3D-printed, customizable electric vehicle that intends to offer customers a vehicle that can be exactly what they need. This idea could mean big things for the automotive industry as a whole. Elderly drivers could lower entry points, parents could add more doors and storage, and those interested in compact models could make a vehicle as small as they want. A Honda spokesperson outlined how the company took design points and engineering know-how from its motorcycle division, resulting in a light but safe pipe-based skeleton under the paneling. This is apparently what gives the ‘micro commuter model’ structural integrity. The company had some assistance from design firm Kabuku, which put a bird on it — on the hatchback trunk, as well as the doors and seat. The car mostly has that familiarly, rough 3D-printed surface to it, but despite being the early first step in Honda’s efforts to offer a heavily customizable electric vehicle, today’s prototype could very much move. A handful of journalists and businessmen got to sit inside and drive it very briefly around a corner in a faux-Japanese village.” @zshahan3. "Honda Shows Off 3D-Printed Customizable EV Concept." Honda Creates “Green Path” To Achieve Goals

Honda has recently announced the “Green Path” approach which includes several initiatives that will help the company reach a voluntary goal to reduce its total GHG emissions by 50 percent by the year 2050. Some of the implementations and guidelines Honda plans to use to achieve this goal includes: Reduce or eliminate the use of substances of concern and scarce natural resources in the design of its vehicles Build and use a $210 million state-of-the-art paint facility that will significantly reduce the environmental impact of the auto-body painting process Significantly reduce the CO2 intensity and water use of its manufacturing operations One-megawatt rooftop solar array at its 400,000 square foot parts distribution center in Windsor Locks, Connecticut is anticipated to meet more than half of the site's total electricity needs and offset an estimated 576 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually Build vehicles that are designed to improve the recyclability of materials at the end of a product's useful life Continue to decrease CO2 emissions from the transportation of vehicles from its plants to dealers Expand the involvement of U.S. Honda dealers in its "Green Dealer" program which rewards dealers who measurably reduce the environmental impact of their operations "When one thinks about what automakers can do to help the environment, the immediate thought is about improving fuel efficiency and developing alternatives to gasoline," said Ryan Harty, manager of Honda's Environmental Business Development Office. "We work every day on these issues. But there's much more automakers can do beyond fuel efficiency to reduce our environmental impact by adopting energy efficiency and renewable energy throughout our operations.”
