When driving a smaller vehicle like a sedan, coupe or hatchback, it’s not uncommon to feel inadequate, or even unsafe next to larger trucks, SUVs, and crossovers. However, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, there is no real need for concern. They recently conducted a study to determine how often people die when in crashes with SUVs and Pickups. Researchers were happy to find that largely due to design changes in both larger and smaller vehicles, the two groups are more compatible on the road. The Honda Division ended 2016 on a high note after achieving a new annual sales record of 1,476,582 units sold throughout the year bringing the total up 4.8 percent from total 2015 sales. In fact, combined sales of just the Civic, Accord, and CR-V alone were more than 1 million for the fourth straight year. Along with the overall sales record for the year they also achieved a new record for just the month of December with sales climbing up 6.9 percent to reach 142,329 units.
“It was an amazing year for the Honda brand with our product lineup full of industry best models,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president & general manager of the Honda Division. “Our strong December also builds momentum for 2017 which is shaping up to be another great year as still more new Honda products will give customers exciting new choices.”
The CR-V set a new sales record for both December and the entire year. December sales were up 21.1 percent to reach 37,778 units while annual sales were up 3.4 percent to reach 357,355 units. The Ridgeline posted its best-ever sales month with December sales reaching 4,085 units. Annual sales of the Civic were up 9.4 percent to reach 366,927 units sold for the year. And, the HR-V experienced a significant increase in annual sales with total 2016 results 95.5 percent higher than results from 2015 to end the year with 82,041 units. For just December the Hr-V’s sales were equally impressive with a 90.7 percent increase over last year to achieve a monthly total of 9,034 units.
Additional December Sales:
- Accord sales reached 33,873 units
- Fit sales were up 9.3 percent to reach 4,425 units
- Odyssey sales reached 10,411 units
- Pilot sales reached 12,072 units

2017 Honda Civic Earns IIHS Award
The Honda Civic may be one of the most recognizable vehicles on our roads today, which is no surprise since it’s been available since the early 1980’s! That type of longevity is just about unheard of in the automotive world unless you’ve created a vehicle that really has what it takes, just like Honda did with the Civic.
Adding another notch to the model’s illustrious history is the 2017 Honda Civic which just received a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick. This means that the newest available Civic earned a rating of “good” in the five crashworthiness tests (moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints), and an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash protection.

The Honda Pilot was completely redesigned for the 2016 model year, and it seems that it didn’t go unnoticed. After lengthy and detailed testing in the Cars.com “Three-Row SUV Challenge”, the 2016 Honda Pilot has come out on top. Testing included driving by an in-market family, expert evaluation on a set course, and a 170-mile drive to determine the real-world MPG of the 2016 Pilot. All these factors combined proved that the Pilot was the clear winner. Along with passing all three tests with flying colors, applause was also given for the comfortable and stylish interior of the eight-person vehicle. Judges recognized the new, available technology like Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.
