Most of us love the extra hour of sleep when we get to “fall back” for Daylight Savings this time of year. However, there are a few precautions that you should take to ensure your commute home, in the dark, is safe.

Start off by dimming your instrument panel and dashboard lights. Think about oncoming traffic at night, the headlights can be blinding sometimes. Lights shining elsewhere, even in your vehicle can be distracting and harmful to your focus. Turn down all of the interior lights before you head out at night so that you can see the road and other drivers clearly.

Next, aim your headlights. A lot of drivers forget that their headlights might be aligned incorrectly. If they’re not aligned to look directly in front of you, they could be blinding oncoming drivers and those in front of you.

Lastly, before you head out, wipe your windshield with newspaper. This will help you eliminate the occurrence of glare from other driver’s headlights. What may look fine during your morning commute might be full of streaks and smudges in the evening. Taking these three things into account before driving will ensure a much safer trip.

For 25 years, Honda has supported the annual Ride for Kids™ event in Los Angeles. For this year’s event, more than 600 motorcycle riders and supporters, including those from Honda’s operations in Torrance worked together to raise more than $220,000 to support the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF).

This is one cause that Honda has stood strongly behind for so long for good reason. The PBTF conducts research and trials to prevent the development of brain tumors in children. Ride for Kids™ is the most successful and longest running fundraising event, beginning at the American Honda Motor Co., campus in Torrance.

“The Honda team is passionate about Ride for Kids and this event is a highlight for our associates each year,” said Chuck Boderman, vice president of the Honda Motorcycle Division. “Sharing our love of motorsports is second only to making a difference for those families who could use some hope and help.”

If you would like to donate to this cause or see if there is any way you can help, check out the Ride for Kids website.

Every parent wants just one thing, their children to be safe. But once they hit the exciting age of 16, that seems like an almost impossible feat. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that at least the vehicle they’re driving is working to keep them safe on their way to and from school? That’s why Edmunds.com, and we at Clinton Honda, suggest the 2016 Honda Accord.

The Accord received recognition on Edmunds.com’s list of 10 Best Cars for Teen Drivers thanks to its spacious interior, use of high-quality materials, and its safety and convenience features, that you can read more about on our Research and Review page. Another factor that put the 2016 honda Accord ahead of competitors is its IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating when equipped with Honda Sensing.

Honda also hit a home run in the Accord with teens thanks to features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But really shined in parent’s eyes thanks to the new Honda Sensing package which is available for all trim levels.

We understand that teaching your teen to drive can be both a rewarding and terrifying experience. Handing off the keys to your teen can be difficult especially when you know that at this point driving seems more like fun to them than the serious task that it really is. While it is up to you to instill the proper level of respect for driving that they need to keep them safe, we can help out by providing you with a vehicle that will help to keep them protected at all times. Edmunds.com has released a list of the 10 Best Cars for Teen Drivers and the 2016 Honda Accord was one of the vehicles to make the list!

The 2016 Accord is a midsize sedan which is ideal for teen drivers because their sedan status makes them easy to navigate for newer drivers, but their slightly larger size means that there is more vehicle surrounding your teen to help keep them safe.

“Midsize sedans are the best choice for teens,” says Tamra Johnson, manager of public relations for the Automobile Association of America. “Small cars don’t offer as much protection in crashes, sporty cars may encourage speeding or recklessness, and SUVs and pickup trucks are more difficult to maneuver and more likely to roll over.”

The 2016 Honda Accord comes equipped with standard features that include Front Side Airbags, Side Curtain Airbags, Active Front Head Restraints, and a Rearview Camera. There are also many other available safety feature options such as Blind-Spot Monitor, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, and Front Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking.

We have the 2016 Honda Accord here at Clinton Honda so stop by with your teen and take it out for a test drive today!
