Here are a few suggestions. Northlandz Building model railroads in his basement was a passionate hobby of Bruce Williams Zaccagnino's. His railroads grew larger and larger, forcing him to keep extending his basement until he eventually decided to build Northlandz to house his ever-growing creation. Today, Northlandz is noted in the Guinness Book of World Records as the museum that houses the largest model railroad in the world. This 52,000 square-foot building contains over eight miles of tracks, 400 bridges, thousands of miniature buildings, 135 locomotives, and hundreds of tunnels and canyons. The museum offers something of interest for the whole family. For those who are not that into trains, Northlandz also houses a random collection of over 200 dolls, as well as a 300-seat concert hall featuring a large pipe organ where Bruce, who is a concert organist, gives a daily performance. Strange? Yes. But also wonderful. Fleming Castle Museum Although many children may not be impressed by spending a family day out at a museum, those who are interested in history may very well enjoy a visit to the Fleming Castle Museum. The house was built in 1756 by an affluent local businessman. In order to accommodate his large family of 10 children, he altered the architectural plan of the common house built at the time, known as the German Bank house, by adding a Gambrel roof for extra living space, as well as adding a floor that was partly below the ground level. The result was a big three-story house, which according to the standards of the time, was a mansion — hence the name Fleming Castle. Today, the house is a museum, and great pains have been taken to preserve the original structure and content of the house, as well as the gardens. The idea is to depict everyday life in the early years of Flemington's history. Inside the house, one can view the colonial kitchen, a tavern room, and a ladies parlor, giving one a glimpse of how people lived over 250 years ago. Black River and Western Railroad If you have small children, a ride on a real steam train is bound to excite them. The Black River and Western Railroad, which was built in 1854, is one of the few railroads in the U.S. where you can still see a steam-powered freight train in action. The steam trains, however, are primarily used today for passenger excursions. Washington Crossing State Park Washington Crossing State Park is one of the best spots to visit this spring. Located just a half-hour away from Flemington, this park offers so many activities that you may need to visit multiple times to experience it at all. One of the best reasons to visit Washington Crossing State Park is to take advantage of its 15 miles of moderate trails that are perfect for hiking or biking. While you're traveling through the woods, you're likely to see breathtaking sights such as green trees soaring to the skies or animals frolicking more through the wild. Since the park was originally established as a nature preserve, you'll also find a variety of educational opportunities. Voorhees State Park Voorhees State Park is another spot that's worth the drive. Farny State Park If you want your spring to be filled with fun and excitement, a trip to Farny State Park is an excellent idea. A little over an hour away from Flemington, this park features a wide variety of activities, especially if you can't resist spending some time on the water. The park is filled with streams and swamps that are perfect for a relaxing day of fishing. If you want to cast your line and catch some fish, you'll need to do so from a boat, since shore fishing isn't permitted in Farny. You can also go for a hike on one of the many trails that wind their way through the area, or you can bring along your binoculars and do some bird watching. New Jersey might not be the biggest state, but it was part of America right from the start. It was also one of the first states to get a highway back when driving an automobile was exciting and new. Even before then, vacationing New Yorkers would take the train down to New Jersey to enjoy the growing number of coastal resort towns. As a result, New Jersey has plenty of unusual attractions along its highways and in its cities. This list has a sampling of them to get you started. Lucy the Elephant Margate City is part of the Atlantic City metro and sits on the same barrier island. Walk along the beach far enough, and you'll eventually spot Lucy the Elephant, a 65-foot elephant statue big enough to house its own gift shop and observation area. Lucy's original name was "the Elephant Bazaar," and more her creator, James Lafferty, finished building her in 1881. That makes her the oldest official roadside attraction in America. Her owners still run tours and a gift shop through her interior to this day. Sterling Hill Mining Museum Up in the northern part of New Jersey is a town called Ogdensburg. Ogdensburg is part of the state's old mining region, and near this town is an old zinc mine converted into the Sterling Hill Mining Museum. It has plenty of history and old mining equipment on display, but what makes this museum stand out is the Rainbow Tunnel. The zinc ore in the walls and ceiling of this tunnel are naturally fluorescent under ultraviolet light, making the walk through an unforgettable experience. You can then learn more about fluorescence in the Warren Museum collection. Pirate Voyages Head over to Ocean City south of Margate, and you can sign up for an ocean tour with a twist. Pirate Voyages is a family-friendly tour on a custom-built boat that takes you out to sea for an hour-long pirate adventure. Guests get to take part in some of the typical shipboard activities you'd see back during the Age of Sail, and you may have to fend off an attacking ship with one of the 16 water cannons on board. Paranormal Books and Curiosities Up near the northern end of the Jersey Shore in a town called Asbury Park, you'll find a bookstore called Paranormal Books and Curiosities. It's also home to the Paranormal Museum, which contains artifacts related to the paranormal history and supernatural stories that come from every corner of New Jersey. The collection includes haunted dolls, relics from haunted sites, and exhibits about cryptids like the Jersey Devil. You can also book a ghost tour of the town or join the monthly seance. New Jersey can be a strange place to live, and the state has been around long enough to accumulate some interesting locations and fascinating stories. From the southern barrier islands overlooking Delaware Bay to the old mining country in the north, New Jersey has plenty going on during the spring months. With the cold winds of winter gone, spring is the perfect time to go outside and enjoy the weather. If you have the time, you should visit one of the great events the state hosts. Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival Every year, Newark and the rest of Essex County celebrate the Cherry Blossom Festival. Branch Brook Park, the first county park in the United States, has more cherry blossom trees than anywhere else, even the National Mall in Washington. That's why it hosts the Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival every year, and people from New York City to Trenton come to see the trees in full bloom in late March and early April. The festival includes Japanese culture demonstrations, a craft market, food, and live music. more St. Patrick's Day Parade in Morris County The St. Patrick's Day Parade in Morristown dates itself back to 1780. After a tough winter, General George Washington gave his Irish militia members a vacation on St. Patrick's Day, and they happened to be in Morris County at the time. Morris County's first modern St. Patrick's Day Parade kicked off in 1979, and it's been going strong ever since. The parade takes place on a Saturday in March before the day itself. Aside from the parade, Morris County also hosts a pre-parade festival with food, music, and activities for kids. Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival Where else would you go for beer and music except Atlantic City? Every year at the end of March, the Atlantic City Convention Center hosts a two-day festival that celebrates the many craft beers and local breweries that have sprung up during the last few decades. The brews come from all across the East Coast and beyond, and for a $60 ticket, you get a commemorative tasting mug and unlimited tastings of all the beer you'd like to try. For the music, Atlantic City brings in a variety of acts to play sets for the main stage and acoustic stage. New Jersey Renaissance Faire While many ren fairs take place in the fall, the New Jersey Renaissance Faire opens its doors on three May and June weekends just outside Bordentown near Trenton. This festival has plenty of activities: eating classic fair foods, browsing the handcrafted goods offered by the many merchants, drinking mead at the Mead Garden, or watching one of the many performers putting on a show on one of the event's 10 stages. You can show up in a period costume, but period clothing is just fine, too. When the weather warms up, people come out of their homes and start having fun. That's why New Jersey offers all kinds of spring events like a Renaissance fair, St. Patrick's Day parades, and festivals that celebrate spring blossoms, spring harvests, and even spring brews. Who's ready to hit the slopes? Winter is here, and it's time to get back to the winter sports. Campgaw Mountain In Mahwah, Campgaw Mountain is one of the cheapest options in the area. Get a great deal and ski the day away! Campgaw Mountain offers snowboarding and skiing lessons so you can better navigate the slopes. It's a smaller ski slope, which often means shorter lines and less crowded trails. Campgaw Mountain has eight beginner and intermediate trails, and 10 800-foot snow tubing runs, as well as a freestyle terrain park for more more advanced skiers and snowboarders. Full day tickets range from $20 to $30 Monday through Friday, depending on when you buy them. Saturday, Sunday, and holiday tickets are $45 for the whole day, but you can purchase half-day tickets for cheaper, depending on when you want to hit the slopes. Mountain Creek Resort Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, New Jersey, has 167 acres and over 1,000 vertical feet of slopes across four peaks. Mountain Creek Resort is one of the hottest spots in the area for skiing and snowboarding. Take the kids to take skiing lessons (or take yourself), go snow tubing, and hit the lodge for a hot drink after a long day of downhill sport. For $129.99, you can get a skiing or snowboarding package that includes a full-day lift ticket, equipment rental, and access to the Terrain Based Learning skills area. Kids can get the same package for $119. For just the full day ticket, it's $79.99 for adults and $59.99 for youth and seniors. There is lodging available at the resort, as well as dining options. Shawnee Mountain Shawnee Mountain in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, has 23 slopes and trails, two terrain parks and a snow tubing park, making it one of the biggest ski resorts on this list. Drop the kids off at the on-site babysitting service, or send them off on lessons if they're old enough. There are great restaurants both on and off the resort, as well as entertainment events throughout the year. All-day lift tickets are $55 during the weekdays and $65 during the weekends for adults and $42 during the weekdays and $50 during the weekends for kids 18 and under. You can rent skis and snowboards for $40 a day. Thunder Ridge Ski Area In Patterson, New York, Thunder Ridge Ski Area is a great place to get in your season of slopes! With 22 trails, three chairlifts, and four magic carpets, you and your family or group of friends can spend days enjoying the slopes of New York. If you want to make a weekend trip out of it, there are plenty of lodging and dining opportunities in the area. Day lift tickets are $30 Monday through Thursday, $45 on Fridays, and $57 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Our team at Clinton Honda put together a list of some of the best tips to keep you and the drivers and passengers around you safe and sound. Stop Speeding Here's an easy one. Go the speed limit. It's there for a reason: to keep speeders from injuring sensible people. Speeding lowers reaction time and can be very dangerous. Wear Your Seat Belts This seems like a no-brainer. In fact, it should be a no-brainer. The majority of people wear their seatbelts in the driver's seat (not all do), but we're more thinking of the passengers as well. The year before New Jersey amended seat belt laws to require passengers in the back seat to buckle up, 73 percent of back-seat passengers killed in traffic crashes in the state were unbelted. For your sake, don't be dumb. Buckle up. The Elusive Turn Signal There's probably a lever on the left side of your steering wheel. That's your turn signal, and it helps all the drivers around you. It also helps you avoid getting hit from behind. Use your turn signal to avoid collisions. Check Your Headlights This is a two-for-one tip. The first is to check your headlights often to make sure they're still working. Cops often pull people over for driving with one headlight. Avoid the ticket by taking care of your ride. Know what cops also pull you over for? Not having your lights on at all. We're not sure if it's forgetfulness or something else that makes people leave their lights off, but it's a problem. Your headlights and taillights should be on a half-hour before sunset to a half-hour between sunrise (AKA when it's dark). When you're driving without headlights, you run a huge risk of someone not seeing you and causing a collision. Allow Me To Merge When you see drivers trying to merge into traffic, slow down and let them do so. The childish practice of speeding up to get ahead of the person trying to get in the line creates more traffic chaos and causes more collisions and is very childish as well. Be a good sport and let them in. Stop Texting Studies show that not looking at the road makes you run into stuff. We didn't research that. But it's the most obvious outcome, right? Looking down at your phone to text your friend about which sports bar he or she is at takes your attention away from making smart driving decisions. Don't hurt someone because you're checking to see how many likes your last selfie got. The encompassing theme here is being smart and thorough about your driving. Pay attention, make sure everything's running correctly, and follow basic safety procedures. Let's all get there in one piece, without losing our minds about the bad drivers of the world. Honda has long been known for two attributes. First, Honda is a cutting-edge brand continually introducing new models. Second, the automaker is known for incredible reliability. Combine these two attributes and it is no wonder that there are many Honda models that are no longer available to buy new (having been replaced by another innovation) but are still available in good operating condition on the used market, sometimes for hefty sums. Wouldn't it be fun if Honda brought back some of these discontinued models for even one more year? Here are three that would be particularly exciting to see: S2000 The S2000 was unlike anything else that you could buy at the time, and it still remains unique today. It was a two-seat roadster equally at home on a residential street as a race track. Its VTEC engine could get up to a stunning 9000 RPM. That alone would be enough to get consumers excited. Add to it the vehicle's sporty look, complete with a fully convertible roof, and the S2000 would rival any luxury vehicle on the market today. CRX This two-seat hatchback was critically acclaimed, twice winning Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year. It was also a hit with consumers for one simple more reason: its incredible fuel efficiency. The CRX had some of the highest miles per gallon ever seen in a gasoline engine, numbers that match or surpass even the hybrids of today. The light, aerodynamic design that led to this efficiency also helped give the CRX another one of its signature traits: exceptional handling. Just for fun, Honda should also bring back the original colors as well. Who wouldn't want Tahitian Green or Barbados Yellow? Prelude The Prelude is well-known among car enthusiasts as a more sporty version of the Accord that was perfect for more aggressive drivers. The evidence behind these claims is pretty clear. The Prelude certainly had a sporty look, with a sleek two-door design and a standard moonroof. In terms of the claim that it could handle aggressive handling, consider the classic Road and Track test of the '88 model. The Prelude was able to maintain a higher average speed on a slalom course than every other car tested. Not just sedans or coupes, mind you, but every other car. Honda is certainly already a popular automobile brand, with several models that are consistently at or near the top of best-selling vehicle lists. However, Honda's success in the classic car scene, where many of its discontinued models are hot commodities, and the rise of the retro trend across all industries will hopefully convince the company to bring back these absolute gems from its past. At the end of the day, this dream scenario for many car enthusiasts is likely just that: a dream. However, it sure is fun to imagine brand-new versions of these classic beauties out on the road.
